A New Take On Delivering News Through Square Videos
My job at the University of Portsmouth continues to expand in all sorts of new and exciting directions with one of them being the producer of a new type of short video that helps deliver the news.
These videos are nothing new. In fact, media corporations such as, NowThis, BBC News, ITV News and Sky News have been using these videos for several months and it has been something that we've spoken about doing for a long time in the office, since before I officially joined the marketing team.
However recently, I gave it a shot and after a few tweaks, I've started to re-produce news videos that I had already worked on and published previously. Below are three examples of the videos have have been produced.
I call these "SSMVs" which stands for Square Social Media Videos. The idea is that they are all produced in the square format so as to be shared directly to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook which all support the square format and is consumed by the viewers easier on their mobile devices.
These videos are used to compliment the longer cuts, like the Tactile Universe video above features a short snippet of an interview. The full edit actually contains the full interview with both researchers involved, so when consumers watch this video, the link which the university provides on social media with these, will take them to the full news story which will contain the full video edits.
This is all part of the better communication of our news stories at the University of Portsmouth and hopefully makes our video packages more bitesize and consumable to the intended audience.
