Big News As A Free Screening Of Star Wars Returns To The Big Screen On May 4
I'm thrilled to announce that the annual Star Wars event on the Big Screen, "May The Fourth Be With You At The Big Screen" will be returning once again this year with the free outdoor screening of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It will take place on Friday, 4 May 2018 in Guildhall Square from 6:30pm.
Let's start by going back to the beginning, a time that seems far, far away...
Last year, I wanted to give the screen more of a reason for people to come and watch it. At the time, we had previously organised family-friendly events which have been a success, even when it poured with rain, but I wanted to take the screenings we do a step further. So I had the idea of using the internationally recognised date of May 4, and use this to do a showing of Star Wars on the Big Screen.
We showed the first of the newest trilogy last year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens which was a huge success for us. This year I wanted to do something similar but I wanted to follow the order that the films were released in the cinema. We had spoken about potentially showing the latest in the trilogy, Star Wars: The Last Jedi but, I just didn't feel it was right. Considering that fact that Solo: A Star Wars Story will be coming out in late May of 2018, it felt right that we would show this film to maybe then lead onto the newest movie in the franchise. Then next year, we have the option of showing The Last Jedi as a refresher ahead of the final episode in the trilogy.
In my head this feels right and I hope that everyone who attends, feels the same way.
It's genuinely a joy to be able to be given the opportunity to think of new ideas and have them come to fruition, so I hope some of you at least come and join us in Guildhall Square for our movie screening this May!
I'll see you there!
