Disney Announce 'TRON' Lightcycle Power Run For Walt Disney World Resort, Florida
Rumours have been spreading around since last October about the possibility of a TRON lightcycle roller coaster coming to one of the U.S. Disney theme parks. Well today, announced by Bob Chapek, Chairman of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts a replica of the Shanghai Disney Resort roller coaster has officially been announced for Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World Resort, Florida.
Shanghai Disneyland Resort has been a huge success for The Walt Disney Company, seeing more visitors in the opening year than Disney originally had expected. While designing the original coaster for the park, the company behind the ride system, Vekoma, reportedly also built a second version of the ride. It sees guest sitting in a motorbike style position while riding 'lightcycles' taken directly from the movie TRON while being accelerated to 60mph - the fastest speeds seen on any of Disney's roller coasters.
Watch this POV of the current ride in Shanghai Disneyland Resort:
The ride will sit alongside the iconic Tomorrowland Speed way in a totally new area within Magic Kingdom Park and is expected to open in 2021, ahead of Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary.
While the ride is taken from TRON, there has been no announcement for a follow sequel to the 2000 re-release of the movie which I have to say, is a favourite of mine!
