How Disney Is Leading Entertainment Experiences With New Innovations
New technology allows Disney the opportunity to create an entertainment show that's truly innovative. Something that's never been done before, brought before your very eyes and surprisingly in this instance, there's no charge to watch it.
So you may have read that I have just been awarded a certificate from the CAA to fly drones commercially in the UK. This is fantastic news as it means that someone has signed off on me being competent to fly a single drone safely in the sky. Great.
Now let's move onto Disney who this week showcased their brand new nighttime holiday show for the newly opened, Disney Springs. If you don't know, Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney) is essentially a premium shopping mall and fancy food court area within the Walt Disney World resort but can be entered without then need of purchasing a ticket to the parks.
Disney Springs is positioned around a lake where this new show takes place. Now, I'm assuming that the area is not suitable for Disney to be setting off fireworks on a nightly basis and so, having teamed up with Intel, are able to present a world first. A show formed entirely of more than 300 drones.
I don't know about you but my first thought on this show was, my god that must cost a lot. But when you actually think about it, it's a lot cheaper for Disney to fly more than 300 drones than set off fireworks every night (considering EPCOT Illuminations: Reflections of Earth costs around $25,000 a night to put on)... and the show is in partnership with Intel.
You can watch the full show above and see just how incredible it is when the drones illuminate the skies. My favourite scene is when the Christmas tree begins to reveal itself. The production is here just for the festive season but I would expect Disney to begin working on more shows like this for this area in the coming months.
