Final Match Of The Season Leads To Victory

Final Match Of The Season Leads To Victory

Last night I played in my last Men's Team 5 match of the season against Cowplain, a team I would consider to possibly have been our toughest match up yet. With my usual partner away, I was paired with Andy Dixon, an experienced player but one I've recently rarely played with.

We started off strong, which may have helped as Andy and I familiarised ourselves with our play style after an hour and a half pre-match practise. Court movement and "go-to shots" were what we were both looking out for prior to the matches, and thank god we did this as I think we may become stuck had we gone in dry.

The games were incredibly competitive. We managed to beat the players in our first match up fairly easily after immediately working out their weaknesses, but it was the second match that we found to be a bit difficult. I think myself and one of the opposing team players had a very similar play style and so countering this was a challenge for both Andy and I. So much so that our first game ended 29-27 to them. The match up was so even that it made for an incredible game to play and I think all players were happy once the first game was complete.

The second game started strong for us both, we were winning in the first 11 point but then they caught up. We were level pegging the entire way to 19 where they then won the last two points. We finished with a 21-17 defeat but what an amazing game it was to play.

The team scored a total of 4 points resulting in a draw and this means that PCBA Men's Team 5 have won the division for the season. We are champions.

I want to give a personal mention to Matt Slama, our captain for amazing work at managing the team this year, he's been a real credit to the club.
