We Win Gold For "Best Chart Show" At The Student Radio Awards

Last Thursday, myself, Glen Scott and Ed Roberts won Gold at the Student Radio Awards 2014, supported by BBC Radio 1 and Global for Best Student Radio Chart Show.

The award was presented by hosts of the Vodafone Big Top 40, Mavin Humes and Kat Shoob  at the star studded event at the IndigO2 at the O2 arena, London on Thursday 6 November. The night's event was hosted by BBC Radio 1 Breakfast presenter, Nick Grimshaw and Dave Berry from 95.8 Capital Breakfast, London.

The chart, which was hosted on student radio station, Pure FM (Portsmouth University Radio Experience), was networked across the UK to 27 other student radio stations and was originally broadcast last May. Below is the full chart entry but here are some of the judges comments on the entry.

This was a really well produced entry. Glen and Ollie combine the functional bits of hosting a chart show – teasing ahead, music passion, phone interviews etc, with funny and entertaining content. The pre production was excellent – beds that really fitted the show, phone interview with an act from the Emerging Icons chart, but they also riffed well on the spot – gags about hat/number two and 2012 London Games/javelin were very funny. Also nice to hear them link the student radio mascot section to the SRA Twitter – showing good knowledge of their audience and trying to get them involved. Overall, a fun and very professional listen.
This was an excellent entry – the presenters were strong with a good rapport, and the production values and use of production was the strongest from all the entries. The show felt professional, but had a real student focus – which was excellent. There was good drama and tension around the number 1 moment, and you made sure the listener was involved telling the story of the chart at all times. Excellent work.
