We're Closing Casual Critic
In a post made to our writers and readers, Wayne and I have made the decision to close down Casual Critic.
Friends, readers and star-crossed lovers of Casual Critic.
It is with a heavy heart that I am here to tell you that, like all good things, this too must come to end. Casual Critic is closing its door one last time and we're turning off the lights.
This decision was not taken lightly. We love doing this. All of us love contributing to Casual Critic and producing content that keeps you all posted with the latest movie news and reviews of the best movies. But please, understand that we run this website on an entirely voluntary basis. There are no ads, no sponsorship or affiliation with anything else at all. We run this website with our own money because it's a passion project.
Sadly, a passion project has to come second when it comes to real life, however. Each of us has become increasingly busy with our 'real life' stuff, whether its careers, mental health, personal life or anything else at all. We haven't been able to dedicate the time into Casual Critic that we did at the start of this journey two year ago. It's simply no longer sustainable to run a fully fledged website with regular content and keep that content to the standard we want and that you expect.
So, we come to the decision that myself, Wayne, and my co-founder Oli discussed with each other. This wasn't an easy one or one that we've taken lightly. However, we don't to be the movie franchise that churns out movies until you're sick of it. We want to be the movie franchise you wish didn't end and want more from. Less Transformers, more Iron Man.
Both Oli and I want to take the time to thank everyone who has been a part of Casual Critic. The writers and content producers who helped make this website what it is now. Umby Winters and Kirsty Bolingbroke were there from the start and helped form the very basis of Casual Critic and Orion Brooks had a brief but invaluable term with us. Connor Heggie has helped the site grow more than we could have imagine and I want to personally give the biggest thanks to Brendon Cooper and Calum Grace - our news writers who pumped out an insurmountable of work that was 90% of what you read on our little website. To each of these people, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Also, a special shout-out to Ed Roberts for being the unofficial, and unwanted, Casual Critic critic. He had some good ideas every now and then. Additionally, a thank you to Simon Bull who also assisted with feedback on the podcasts that we produced too, and of course Express FM for allowing us to produce them in their studios, free of charge.
And to you, dearest reader. Whether you've been here from the start or just started reading. What started as a blog that our friends would read grew into a reader-base we never imagined. For every word of ours you read, for every click you gave our articles and for every time you told your friends about a story you read with us. For all of this, we want to thank you more than these words do justice.
Casual Critic will close it's doors 2nd April 2018. Until then, we thank you.
And in case we don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight.
